| 5 | WHEREAS, Jimmy Buffett is a world-class entertainer known |
| 6 | for his support of charitable and environmental causes |
| 7 | throughout the world, and |
| 8 | WHEREAS, following his graduation from the University of |
| 9 | Southern Mississippi in 1969, Jimmy Buffett attempted to make |
| 10 | his mark on the Nashville music scene before moving to Key West, |
| 11 | where he gradually evolved into the easy-going inhabitant and |
| 12 | troubadour of the islands revered by millions of adoring fans, |
| 13 | whose music mixes country, folk, and coastal themes, and |
| 14 | WHEREAS, opening in 1985, Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville |
| 15 | Store in Key West was the first of its kind, and since that |
| 16 | time, Margaritaville Cafés and Stores have expanded to more than |
| 17 | a dozen locations worldwide, with the Orlando Margaritaville |
| 18 | Café being one of the franchise's highest-grossing locations, |
| 19 | and |
| 20 | WHEREAS, in 1981, Jimmy Buffett and Governor Bob Graham |
| 21 | founded the Save the Manatee Club, one of the world's leading |
| 22 | manatee preservation organizations, and |
| 23 | WHEREAS, in 1995, Jimmy Buffett used the proceeds from that |
| 24 | year's concert tour to fund the Singing for Change Charitable |
| 25 | Foundation, which provides grants to local charities that |
| 26 | support children and families, the environment, and |
| 27 | disenfranchised groups, and |
| 28 | WHEREAS, on November 23, 2004, Jimmy Buffett raised $3.4 |
| 29 | million at his "Surviving the Storm" Hurricane Relief Concert in |
| 30 | Orlando to provide relief for hurricane victims in Florida, |
| 31 | Alabama, and the Caribbean, and |
| 32 | WHEREAS, on January 18, 2008, Jimmy Buffett performed a |
| 33 | concert in Hong Kong that raised $63,000 for the Foreign |
| 34 | Correspondents' Club Charity Fund, and |
| 35 | WHEREAS, on July 11, 2010, Jimmy Buffett organized and |
| 36 | performed a concert for Gulf Coast residents to raise awareness |
| 37 | of the effects of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and to support |
| 38 | the livelihood of the area, and |
| 39 | WHEREAS, Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Beach Hotel, |
| 40 | located in Pensacola, opened in the summer of 2010 and employs |
| 41 | approximately 200 Floridians, and |
| 42 | WHEREAS, Jimmy Buffett is also an author and one of only |
| 43 | seven writers to have a number-one book on both the New York |
| 44 | Times Fiction and Non-Fiction Best Sellers lists, NOW, |
| 45 | THEREFORE, |

| 47 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 48 | Florida: |
| 49 |

| 50 | That April 16, 2011, is recognized as "Jimmy Buffett Day" |
| 51 | in Florida in appreciation of his charitable efforts, support of |
| 52 | the environment, and positive economic impact in the state. |
| 53 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
| 54 | presented to Jimmy Buffett as a tangible token of the sentiments |
| 55 | expressed herein. |
