House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing Dr. Barth A. Green and his
3colleagues at the University of Miami Global Institute for
4Community Health and Development and Project Medishare for
5Haiti, Inc.

7     WHEREAS, in 1994, Dr. Barth A. Green cofounded Project
8Medishare for Haiti, Inc., in an effort to provide quality
9healthcare and development services for the citizens of Haiti,
10serving over 85,000 individuals before the devastating
11earthquake hit the country in 2010, and
12     WHEREAS, Dr. Barth A. Green is also the cofounder of the
13University of Miami Global Institute for Community Health and
14Development, which is a university-wide program focused on
15improving and sustaining human and economic health in the
16Western Hemisphere, and
17     WHEREAS, in response to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, Dr.
18Barth A. Green and his colleagues at the Global Institute for
19Community Health and Development established a massive relief
20effort, and
21     WHEREAS, in a collaborative effort, the University of Miami
22Global Institute/Project Medishare field hospital was opened in
23Haiti as the first referral center for severe critical care and
24trauma cases, treating over 30,000 patients and performing more
25than 1,500 emergency surgeries with a rotating medical staff of
265,000 volunteers from around the world, and
27     WHEREAS, since relocating the operations of the field
28hospital to the Hospital Bernard Mevs in downtown Port-au-Prince
29and collaborating with the Haitian-run facility, more than
3045,000 additional patients have been treated, and
31     WHEREAS, Dr. Barth A. Green and his colleagues at both the
32University of Miami Global Institute for Community Health and
33Development and Project Medishare for Haiti, Inc., have been
34instrumental in increasing access to lifesaving health care for
35the citizens of Haiti, NOW, THEREFORE,

37Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
38Florida:

40     That Dr. Barth A. Green and his colleagues at the
41University of Miami Global Institute for Community Health and
42Development and Project Medishare for Haiti, Inc., are
43recognized for their humanitarian efforts and commended for
44their steadfast dedication to the provision of health care to
45the citizens of Haiti.
