House Resolution
2A resolution honoring the 2010-2011 Pensacola State
3College Lady Pirates Women's Basketball Team.
4
5     WHEREAS, riding the wave of a phenomenal undefeated season
6record of 29 consecutive regular season wins, the Pensacola
7State College Lady Pirates forged ahead to win the Florida
8Community College Activities Association State Championship,
9their first state championship in 26 years, earning the Lady
10Pirates their first trip to the National Junior College Athletic
11Association National Championship since 1985, and
12     WHEREAS, under Head Coach Chanda Rigby, 2010-2011 FCCAA
13All-Panhandle Conference Women's Basketball Coach of the Year
14and FCSAA All-Tournament Women's Basketball Coach of the Year;
15Assistant Coaches Kayla Ard and Latoya Thomas; Athletic Director
16Bill Hamilton; and President Ed Meadows, the Lady Pirates
17completed an amazing season record of 35 wins and only 1 loss,
18and
19     WHEREAS, the Pensacola State College Lady Pirates have
20accumulated numerous team and individual honors, including
21representing the State of Florida with their participation in
22the National Junior College Athletic Association National
23Championship with a tournament record of 3 wins and 1 loss, and
24     WHEREAS, with exceptional coaching comes extraordinary
25players as displayed by Lady Pirates team members Brandy Broome,
26Meghan Perkins, Jessica Merritt, Ashley Olvera, Natalie Burke,
27Tawanna Lee, Najat Ouardad, Patricia Bright, Darnisha Hamilton,
28Jenisha Jackson, and Karneshia Garrett, whose outstanding
29athletic teamwork exemplifies superior sportsmanship, and
30     WHEREAS, the Lady Pirates individual and team
31accomplishments are vast and include awards to Jessica Merritt,
32All-American and All-State Player and All-Panhandle Conference
33and Florida State Tournament Most Valuable Player; Meghan
34Perkins, All-American and All-State Player and Florida State
35College Athletic Association Player of the Year; and an All-
36Panhandle Conference Team comprised of Lady Pirates players
37Karneshia Garrett, Najat Ouardad, Meghan Perkins, Jessica
38Merritt, Brandy Broome, Tawanna Lee, Ashley Olvera, and Darnisha
39Hamilton, NOW, THEREFORE,

41Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

44     That it is with great pride that the 2010-2011 Pensacola
45State College Lady Pirates Women's Basketball Team is applauded
46for the numerous accomplishments of its players and coaches.
47     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
48presented to each team member and coach of the 2010-2011
49Pensacola State College Lady Pirates Women's Basketball Team as
50a tangible token of the sentiments expressed herein.
