A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to resident status for tuition
3purposes; amending s. 1009.21, F.S.; providing that
4veterans of the Armed Services of the United States,
5including reserve components thereof, who attend the
6physical location of a public college, university, or
7institution of higher learning within the state are
8residents for tuition purposes; providing an effective
9date.

11Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13     Section 1.  Present paragraphs (c) through (k) of
14subsection (10) of section 1009.21, Florida Statutes, are
15redesignated as paragraphs (d) through (l), respectively, and a
16new paragraph (c) is added to that subsection, to read:
17     1009.21  Determination of resident status for tuition
18purposes.-Students shall be classified as residents or
19nonresidents for the purpose of assessing tuition in
20postsecondary educational programs offered by charter technical
21career centers or career centers operated by school districts,
22in Florida College System institutions, and in state
23universities.
24     (10)  The following persons shall be classified as
25residents for tuition purposes:
26     (c)  Veterans of the Armed Services of the United States,
27including reserve components thereof, who attend the physical
28location of a public college, university, or institution of
29higher learning within the state.
30     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2012.
