1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to psychologists; amending s. 490.006,
3 F.S.; revising the licensure requirements for a
4 psychologist or school psychologist who possesses a
5 doctoral degree and holds a license from another
6 jurisdiction; requiring 15 years rather than 20 years
7 of licensed experience in another jurisdiction within
8 25 years preceding the date of application; providing
9 an effective date.

11 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13 Section 1. Subsection (1) of section 490.006, Florida
14 Statutes, is amended to read:
15 490.006 Licensure by endorsement.—
16 (1) The department shall license a person as a psychologist
17 or school psychologist who, upon applying to the department and
18 remitting the appropriate fee, demonstrates to the department
19 or, in the case of psychologists, to the board that the
20 applicant:
21 (a) Holds a valid license or certificate in another state
22 to practice psychology or school psychology, as applicable,
23 provided that, when the applicant secured such license or
24 certificate, the requirements were substantially equivalent to
25 or more stringent than those set forth in this chapter at that
26 time; and, if no Florida law existed at that time, then the
27 requirements in the other state must have been substantially
28 equivalent to or more stringent than those set forth in this
29 chapter at the present time;
30 (b) Is a diplomate in good standing with the American Board
31 of Professional Psychology, Inc.; or
32 (c) Possesses a doctoral degree in psychology as described
33 in s. 490.003 and has at least 15 20 years of experience as a
34 licensed psychologist in any jurisdiction or territory of the
35 United States within 25 years preceding the date of application.
36 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2012.
