    2         An act relating to limited English proficient
    3         students; amending s. 1003.56, F.S.; authorizing a
    4         school district to administer a student achievement
    5         test in a student’s primary language if the student is
    6         severely limited in English proficiency; providing an
    7         effective date.

    9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   10  
   11         Section 1. Present subsections (4) and (5) of section
   12  1003.56, Florida Statutes, are redesignated as subsections (5)
   13  and (6), respectively, and a new subsection (4) is added to that
   14  section, to read:
   15         1003.56 English language instruction for limited English
   16  proficient students.—
   17         (4) If the results of the Comprehensive English Language
   18  Learning Assessment, or similar assessment, indicate that a
   19  student is severely limited in English proficiency, the school
   20  district may administer any other student achievement test in
   21  the student’s native language.
   22         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2012.
