       The Committee on Governmental Oversight and Accountability
       (Ring) recommended the following:
       
    1         Senate Amendment 
    2  
    3         Delete lines 1899 - 1908
    4  and insert:
    5  The length of the probationary period may not exceed 18 months.
    6  An employee who has not attained merit status in his or her
    7  current position serves at the pleasure of the agency head and
    8  may be dismissed at the discretion of the agency head.
    9         (3) If an employee who has received an internal agency
   10  promotion from a position in which the employee held merit
   11  status is to be dismissed from the promotional position for
   12  failing to meet the established performance standards of the
   13  promotional position while in probationary status, the agency,
   14  before such dismissal, shall return the employee to his or her
   15  former position or to a position having substantially similar
   16  duties and
