| 9 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 10 |
|
| 11 | Section 1. Subsection (4) of section 1003.453, Florida |
| 12 | Statutes, is amended to read: |
| 13 | 1003.453 School wellness and physical education policies; |
| 14 | nutrition guidelines.- |
| 15 | (4) School districts are encouraged to provide basic |
| 16 | training in first aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation |
| 17 | (CPR), for all students, beginning in grade 6 and every 2 years |
| 18 | thereafter. As part of the training in CPR, which is based on a |
| 19 | program that is nationally recognized and uses the most current |
| 20 | national evidence-based emergency cardiovascular care |
| 21 | guidelines, students shall learn and practice the psychomotor |
| 22 | skills associated with performing CPR at least one time prior to |
| 23 | high school graduation. Psychomotor skills are learned through |
| 24 | hands-on practice and skills testing which support cognitive |
| 25 | learning. Private and public partnerships for providing training |
| 26 | or necessary funding are encouraged. |
| 27 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2012. |
