    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to state debtors; directing the
    3         Department of State to publish on its website a list
    4         of persons owing money to the state; requiring state
    5         agencies to forward such information to the
    6         department; requiring the department to also publish
    7         such information in state newspapers; providing an
    8         effective date.

   10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   11  
   12         Section 1. To the extent allowed under state and federal
   13  law, the Department of State shall establish and maintain on its
   14  website a list of persons who currently owe money to the state,
   15  including the amount owned and the nature of the debt. Such debt
   16  may include, but is not limited to, any unpaid taxes,
   17  administrative fines, judgments, or settlements. Each state
   18  agency, as defined in s. 216.011, Florida Statutes, shall
   19  forward to the department, on a monthly basis, a list of such
   20  persons known to that agency. The department, on a monthly basis
   21  shall also forward to the major state newspapers for publication
   22  a list of those persons residing in that newspaper’s primary
   23  area of coverage who have remained on the list for more than 30
   24  days.
   25         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2012.
