1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to the regulation of summer camps;
3 amending s. 409.175, F.S.; requiring the Department of
4 Children and Families to create an online registry of
5 persons who have passed the background screening
6 requirements for employment in summer camps;
7 authorizing the department to adopt rules; providing
8 an effective date.

10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12 Section 1. Subsection (18) is added to section 409.175,
13 Florida Statutes, to read:
14 409.175 Licensure of family foster homes, residential
15 child-caring agencies, and child-placing agencies; public
16 records exemption.—
17 (18) Owners, operators, employees, and volunteers working
18 in summer day camps or summer 24-hour camps providing care for
19 children must pass a background screening, using the level 2
20 standards for screening set forth in chapter 435. In order to
21 facilitate employment decisions and to provide information to
22 parents and others about summer camps, the department shall
23 create an online registry of persons who have met these
24 requirements, using the information supplied by owners and
25 operators of the camps. This registry shall be placed on the
26 department’s Internet website and shall be available to the
27 public. The department is authorized to adopt rules to implement
28 this subsection.
29 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2014.
