    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution congratulating the 2013 Venice High
    3         School Indians baseball team on its second consecutive
    4         state title win and recognizing the team’s outstanding
    5         contributions to the community in keeping with its
    6         motto, “Excellence on and off the field.”
    7  
    8         WHEREAS, in 2013, the Venice High School Indians baseball
    9  team became only the third high school team in the history of
   10  prep baseball in Sarasota and Manatee Counties to win back-to
   11  back state titles, and
   12         WHEREAS, in taking the title, the Venice High School
   13  Indians baseball team stepped into the national spotlight, being
   14  named by Baseball America as the number one team among public
   15  schools nationwide, and
   16         WHEREAS, the Venice High School Indians baseball team is
   17  equally proud of its off-field accomplishments, which include a
   18  3.2 team GPA and more than 1,200 hours of community service, and
   19         WHEREAS, the Venice High School Indians baseball team’s
   20  community service includes a 9-year involvement with Reading
   21  Mentors, in which the players, on a weekly basis, assist third
   22  graders in reading; a 15-year association with the Little League
   23  Challenger program, in which members of the team serve as
   24  “Challenger buddies”; visits to local assisted living
   25  facilities; an annual project with Habitat for Humanity; and
   26  assistance with fundraising efforts for the Wounded Warrior
   27  Project, and
   28         WHEREAS, the hard work and dedication of the Venice High
   29  School Indians baseball team is evidenced in its outstanding
   30  accomplishments both on and off the field, NOW, THEREFORE,
   31  
   32  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   33  
   34         That we congratulate the 2013 Venice High School Indians
   35  baseball team on its second consecutive state title win and
   36  recognize the team’s outstanding contributions to the community.
