    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to punitive damages; amending s.
    3         768.73, F.S.; revising the applicability of provisions
    4         relating to the award of punitive damages in civil
    5         actions; providing a directive to the Division of Law
    6         Revision and Information; providing an effective date.

    8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
    9  
   10         Section 1. Subsection (5) of section 768.73, Florida
   11  Statutes, is amended to read:
   12         768.73 Punitive damages; limitation.—
   13         (5) This section applies to all civil actions in which a
   14  final judgment has not been entered on the effective date of
   15  this act and to all civil actions filed on or the provisions of
   16  this section shall be applied to all causes of action arising
   17  after the effective date of this act regardless of when the
   18  causes of action arose.
   19         Section 2. The Division of Law Revision and Information is
   20  directed to replace the phrase “the effective date of this act”
   21  wherever it occurs in this act with the date this act becomes a
   22  law.
   23         Section 3. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
