1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to the Florida Tourism Hall of Fame;
3 creating s. 265.004, F.S.; providing legislative
4 intent; establishing the Florida Tourism Hall of Fame;
5 providing for administration by the Florida Tourism
6 Industry Marketing Corporation; designating a location
7 for the display of inductee plaques; providing
8 procedures for nomination, selection, and induction of
9 members; providing an effective date.

11 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13 Section 1. Section 265.004, Florida Statutes, is created to
14 read:
15 265.004 Florida Tourism Hall of Fame.—
16 (1) It is the intent of the Legislature to recognize and
17 honor those persons, living or dead, who through their work
18 within the tourism industry have made significant contributions
19 to the economic climate and the well-being of the residents of
20 this state.
21 (2) There is established the Florida Tourism Hall of Fame.
22 (a) The Florida Tourism Hall of Fame is administered by the
23 Florida Tourism Industry Marketing Corporation without
24 appropriation of state funds.
25 (b) The Department of Management Services shall set aside
26 an area on the Plaza Level of the Capitol Building and shall
27 consult with the Florida Tourism Industry Marketing Corporation
28 regarding the design and theme of the area.
29 (c) Each person who is inducted into the Florida Tourism
30 Hall of Fame shall have his or her name and image placed on a
31 plaque displayed in the designated area of the Capitol Building,
32 which plaque shall designate the member’s discipline or
33 contribution and any vital information relating to the member.
34 (3) The Florida Tourism Industry Marketing Corporation
35 shall establish selection criteria for induction into the
36 Florida Tourism Hall of Fame and shall annually accept
37 nominations.
38 (a) In selecting its nominees for submission to the board
39 of directors of the corporation, the corporation shall give
40 preference to tourism industry leaders who were born in Florida
41 or adopted Florida as their home state and who have made a
42 significant contribution to the state’s travel and tourism
43 industry.
44 (b) The corporation may establish criteria and set specific
45 timeframes for the acceptance and consideration of nominations
46 and may establish a formal induction ceremony to coincide with
47 the annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism.
48 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2014.
