    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to persons excused from jury service;
    3         amending s. 40.013, F.S.; allowing a woman
    4         breastfeeding her child to be excused from jury
    5         service for a specified period following the child’s
    6         birth; providing for additional excused periods;
    7         providing an effective date.

    9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   10  
   11         Section 1. Subsection (10) is added to section 40.013,
   12  Florida Statutes, to read:
   13         40.013 Persons disqualified or excused from jury service.—
   14         (10) A mother breastfeeding her child shall, upon request,
   15  be excused from jury service for 1 year following the child’s
   16  birth. As long as she continues to breastfeed her child, she may
   17  be excused for additional 1-year periods.
   18         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2014.
