1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to residential construction; amending
3 s. 553.37, F.S.; directing the Florida Building
4 Commission to adopt a requirement within the Florida
5 Building Code that, on or after a specified date, all
6 newly constructed residential buildings have a solar
7 thermal compatible system; defining the term “solar
8 thermal compatible system”; providing an effective
9 date.

11 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13 Section 1. Subsection (13) is added to section 553.37,
14 Florida Statutes, to read:
15 553.37 Rules; inspections; and insignia.—
16 (13) The Florida Building Commission shall adopt within the
17 Florida Building Code a requirement that, effective January 1,
18 2019, all newly constructed residential buildings in this state
19 must have a solar thermal compatible system. For the purposes of
20 this subsection, the term “solar thermal compatible system”
21 means a water heating device that is capable of using heat
22 trapped from incidental sunlight in order to heat water.
23 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2015.
