    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution recognizing May 14, 2015, as “Fathers in
    3         Education Day” and May 11-15, 2015, as “Fathers in
    4         Action and Advocacy Week” in Florida, and encouraging
    5         the support and participation of school districts,
    6         counties, and elected officials statewide in these
    7         landmark occasions.
    8  
    9         WHEREAS, the Fatherhood Task Force of South Florida was
   10  organized to facilitate the involvement of fathers and male role
   11  models in the lives of children, and
   12         WHEREAS, Fathers in Education is a national movement aimed
   13  at increasing the involvement of fathers in their children’s
   14  education and academic success, and
   15         WHEREAS, there is strong evidence that children benefit
   16  academically, emotionally, and socially when their fathers and
   17  male role models take an interest in their learning, and
   18         WHEREAS, the Fatherhood Task Force of South Florida has
   19  embraced the Fathers in Education movement and is reaching out
   20  to fathers to encourage their participation in a groundbreaking
   21  statewide event during which public, charter, and private
   22  schools will invite fathers and male role models into the
   23  schools to actively participate in educational activities and
   24  programs with students, and
   25         WHEREAS, our great state continues to investigate ways to
   26  improve opportunities for our children and invest in promoting
   27  fathers’ involvement in education, and
   28         WHEREAS, the ultimate goal of the Fathers in Education
   29  movement is to identify ambassadors who will organize activities
   30  in the schools on an ongoing basis which will increase the
   31  involvement of fathers in their children’s education, both at
   32  school and at home, NOW, THEREFORE,

   34  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   35  
   36         That we recognize May 14, 2015, as “Fathers in Education
   37  Day” and May 11-15, 2015, as “Fathers in Action and Advocacy
   38  Week” in Florida, and encourage the support and participation of
   39  school districts, counties, and elected officials statewide in
   40  these landmark occasions.
