    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution recognizing the University of South
    3         Florida Sarasota-Manatee.
    4  
    5         WHEREAS, in 1975, the University of South Florida began
    6  offering upper-division undergraduate and graduate classes in
    7  Sarasota County, and
    8         WHEREAS, the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee
    9  was established as a regional campus by the Legislature in 2001,
   10  and
   11         WHEREAS, in 2006, the University of South Florida Sarasota
   12  Manatee opened a new campus center near the Powel Crosley Estate
   13  in Manatee County, and
   14         WHEREAS, the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee
   15  was granted separate academic accreditation by the Southern
   16  Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges in
   17  2011, and
   18         WHEREAS, in 2013, the University of South Florida Sarasota
   19  Manatee welcomed its inaugural freshman class, and
   20         WHEREAS, in 2015, the Board of Governors of the State
   21  University System gave approval to the University of South
   22  Florida Sarasota-Manatee to offer a full range of general
   23  education and lower-level courses to students, NOW, THEREFORE,

   25  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   26  
   27         That the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee is
   28  recognized on its 40th anniversary for its service to the
   29  citizens of Sarasota and Manatee Counties and the greater Tampa
   30  Bay area.
   31         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be
   32  presented to the University of South Florida Board of Trustees
   33  and the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee Campus
   34  Board as a tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida
   35  Senate.
