    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution recognizing October 3, 2016, as the
    3         Centennial Anniversary of Lee Memorial Health System
    4         and commending the board of directors, nurses,
    5         doctors, employees, auxiliaries, and volunteers of,
    6         and donors to, Lee Memorial Health System for their
    7         support and dedication to the delivery of quality
    8         health care services to area residents.

   10         WHEREAS, Lee County Hospital began serving area residents
   11  on October 3, 1916, as a 15-bed hospital, and
   12         WHEREAS, Lee County Hospital grew to become one of the
   13  largest public, not-for-profit health systems in the country,
   14  and is now known as Lee Memorial Health System, and
   15         WHEREAS, the overall quality of life enjoyed by residents
   16  of a community is reflective of the health and well-being of the
   17  residents and the availability of quality health care services
   18  to those residents, and
   19         WHEREAS, Lee Memorial Health System is working to achieve
   20  its vision to be the best patient-centered and family-centered
   21  health care system in the nation by working to deliver
   22  excellence in quality, safety, efficiency, and compassion, and
   23         WHEREAS, for the past century, Lee Memorial Health System
   24  has maintained its commitment to provide fully accessible health
   25  care services for residents of Southwest Florida without regard
   26  to their ability to pay and without direct taxpayer support, and
   27         WHEREAS, Lee Memorial Health System is a fully accredited,
   28  comprehensive health system providing a continuum of health care
   29  services through its hospitals, physician practices, outpatient
   30  facilities, wellness programs, home health services, and skilled
   31  nursing facilities, and
   32         WHEREAS, Lee Memorial Health System provides services
   33  unique to the region, such as the Golisano Children’s Hospital
   34  of Southwest Florida, a regional trauma center, a regional
   35  cancer center, a regional perinatal intensive care center, a
   36  Level III neonatal intensive care unit, and a kidney transplant
   37  clinic, and
   38         WHEREAS, Lee Memorial Health System is one of the region’s
   39  largest employers, with a staff of more than 11,000, including
   40  300 primary and specialty care physicians and advanced
   41  practitioners, a medical staff of more than 1,400, and three
   42  auxiliaries that include 4,500 volunteers, all in support of
   43  more than a million patient encounters each year, and
   44         WHEREAS, Lee Memorial Health System collaborates with
   45  community and social service agencies through Healthy Lee, Lee
   46  Community Health Care, and multiple outreach programs aimed at
   47  identifying the health needs of the community and constructing a
   48  strategic plan for improving residents’ health and quality of
   49  life, and
   50         WHEREAS, as a result of its unique combination of
   51  facilities, capabilities, and people, including the people of
   52  Southwest Florida, whose support and generosity over the past
   53  100 years have played a major role in its success, Lee Memorial
   54  Health System has been recognized with numerous quality and
   55  safety awards at the national, state, and local levels, NOW,
   56  THEREFORE,

   58  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   59  
   60         That October 3, 2016, is recognized as the Centennial
   61  Anniversary of Lee Memorial Health System, and the board of
   62  directors, nurses, doctors, employees, auxiliaries, and
   63  volunteers of, and donors to, Lee Memorial Health System are
   64  commended for their support and dedication to the delivery of
   65  quality health care services to area residents.
