    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution recognizing and congratulating the Farm
    3         Credit System for achieving its centennial and
    4         commemorating 100 years of service to farmers and
    5         rural communities throughout Florida and beyond.
    6  
    7         WHEREAS, agriculture is a $100 billion endeavor in this
    8  state and is its second-largest industry, employing 2 million
    9  people, farming nearly 300 commodities from citrus to sweet
   10  corn, beef cows to broilers, and honey to landscape plants, and
   11         WHEREAS, in 1916, Congress established the Farm Credit
   12  System, considered the nation’s first government-sponsored
   13  enterprise, to provide a reliable source of credit for the
   14  nation’s farmers and ranchers, and
   15         WHEREAS, the Farm Credit System has been providing
   16  reliable, consistent credit and financial services to farmers
   17  and rural communities for 100 years, through good times and bad,
   18  and is poised to continue providing those services for many
   19  years to come, and
   20         WHEREAS, the Farm Credit System serves 3,800 customers in
   21  this state through Farm Credit of Central Florida, Farm Credit
   22  of Florida, and Farm Credit of Northwest Florida, and
   23         WHEREAS, agriculture touches the daily lives of all of the
   24  residents of our great state, from the food on their tables to
   25  the clothes on their backs, and
   26         WHEREAS, Florida supports agriculture and the noble mission
   27  of the Farm Credit System set by Congress 100 years ago, NOW,
   28  THEREFORE,

   30  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

   32         That the Farm Credit System, Farm Credit of Central
   33  Florida, Farm Credit of Florida, and Farm Credit of Northwest
   34  Florida are recognized and congratulated on the occasion of the
   35  Farm Credit System’s centennial year.
