    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution congratulating Suellen Smith on her
    3         recognition by the School Nutrition Association as a
    4         2016 School Nutrition Hero.
    5  
    6         WHEREAS, Suellen Smith began her career as a self-described
    7  “regular lunch lady” at Pasco High School, where she worked for
    8  11 years before moving to Zephyrhills High School, and
    9         WHEREAS, Suellen Smith has worked at Zephyrhills High
   10  School for 15 years, where she is the cafeteria manager,
   11  overseeing a facility that serves more than 300 breakfasts, 850
   12  lunches, and about 100 à la carte items each day, and
   13         WHEREAS, Suellen Smith has demonstrated time and again that
   14  she views her work as cafeteria manager as an opportunity to
   15  have a much broader impact on the lives of the students of
   16  Zephyrhills High School, and
   17         WHEREAS, Suellen Smith has turned the Zephyrhills High
   18  School cafeteria into a community center for students in need,
   19  maintaining a clothing closet that offers formal attire that
   20  students can wear to prom, homecoming, and graduation, and
   21         WHEREAS, Suellen Smith ensures that students who have been
   22  identified by teachers as being in need of food receive free
   23  snacks so that the students do not go hungry, and
   24         WHEREAS, Suellen Smith mentors students, helping them fill
   25  out applications for scholarships and serving as an advisor to
   26  the student council; encourages students who face difficult
   27  circumstances; and recognizes students’ accomplishments when
   28  they achieve academic, athletic, or personal goals, and
   29         WHEREAS, in May 2015, Suellen Smith received the Community
   30  Humanitarian Award from the Florida School Nutrition
   31  Association, and
   32         WHEREAS, on February 29, 2016, Suellen Smith will be
   33  recognized by the School Nutrition Association as one of only
   34  five 2016 School Nutrition Heroes nationwide, NOW, THEREFORE,
   35  
   36  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   37  
   38         That Suellen Smith is congratulated on her recognition by
   39  the School Nutrition Association as a 2016 School Nutrition
   40  Hero.
   41         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with
   42  the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Suellen Smith as
   43  a tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
