1 Senate Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing and supporting the second
3 Invictus Games for wounded, injured, and sick active
4 duty military servicemembers and veterans, to be held
5 May 8-12, 2016, in Orlando.

7 WHEREAS, the Invictus Games is the only international
8 adaptive sporting event for injured active duty military
9 servicemembers and veterans, in which the power of sports is
10 used to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation, and generate
11 wider understanding and respect for those who serve or who have
12 served their country, and
13 WHEREAS, the inaugural Invictus Games took place in 2014 in
14 London, England, and brought together more than 400 competitors
15 from 13 nations to compete in sporting events, and
16 WHEREAS, Florida has the honor of hosting the second
17 Invictus Games, which will be held at Disney’s ESPN Wide World
18 of Sports Complex in Orlando from May 8 to May 12, 2016, and
19 WHEREAS, the second Invictus Games will bring together more
20 than 500 competitors from 15 nations to compete in 10 sporting
21 events, and
22 WHEREAS, the nations represented are Afghanistan,
23 Australia, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, France, Georgia, Germany,
24 Iraq, Italy, Jordan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the United
25 Kingdom, and the United States, and
26 WHEREAS, Invictus Games participants have sacrificed their
27 personal health and well-being, and many have suffered life
28 changing injuries, visible or otherwise, to defend the safety
29 and security of their home nation, and
30 WHEREAS, the Invictus Games seeks to help the physical,
31 psychological, and social healing of injured active duty
32 military servicemembers and veterans through the holistic
33 recovery and rehabilitation that occurs through sports, and
34 WHEREAS, the word “invictus” means “unconquered,” and the
35 Invictus Games reflects the unconquered spirit of wounded, ill,
36 or injured active duty military servicemembers and veterans who
37 have been tested and challenged, but not overcome, and
38 WHEREAS, Floridians view this inspiring event as an
39 opportunity to celebrate and recognize the sacrifices made by
40 active duty military servicemembers and veterans across the
41 globe to safeguard the security of our nations and the values we
42 hold dear, and
43 WHEREAS, there is no place more suitable to host the second
44 Invictus Games than Florida, the most military-friendly and
45 veteran-friendly state in the nation, NOW, THEREFORE,

47 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

49 That we recognize the second Invictus Games and the
50 recuperation and rehabilitation that the Invictus Games brings
51 to our nation’s wounded, injured, and sick active duty military
52 servicemembers and veterans and to those who serve or who have
53 served in the armed services of our friends and allies around
54 the globe.
