       The Committee on Health Policy (Powell) recommended the
       following:
       
    1         Senate Amendment (with title amendment)
    2  
    3         Between lines 115 and 116
    4  insert:
    5         Section 2. Subsection (3) is added to section 458.3485,
    6  Florida Statutes, to read:
    7         458.3485 Medical assistant.—
    8         (3) CERTIFICATION.—To obtain the designation of a certified
    9  medical assistant, the medical assistant must receive
   10  certification from a certification program accredited by the
   11  National Commission for Certifying Agencies.
   12         Section 3. Subsection (7) of section 483.291, Florida
   13  Statutes, is amended to read:
   14         483.291 Powers and duties of the agency; rules.—The agency
   15  shall adopt rules to implement this part and part II of chapter
   16  408, which rules must include the following:
   17         (7) PERSONNEL.—The agency shall prescribe minimum
   18  qualifications for center personnel. A center may employ as a
   19  medical assistant a person who has at least one of the following
   20  qualifications:
   21         (a) Prior experience of not less than 6 months as a medical
   22  assistant in the office of a licensed medical doctor or
   23  osteopathic physician or in a hospital, an ambulatory surgical
   24  center, a home health agency, or a health maintenance
   25  organization.
   26         (b) Certification and registration from a certification
   27  program accredited by the National Commission for Certifying
   28  Agencies and by the American Medical Technologists Association
   29  or other similar professional association approved by the
   30  agency.
   31         (c) Prior employment as a medical assistant in a licensed
   32  center for at least 6 consecutive months at some time during the
   33  preceding 2 years.

   36  And the title is amended as follows:
   37         Delete lines 2 - 11
   38  and insert:
   39         An act relating to medical faculty and medical
   40         assistant certification; amending s. 458.3145, F.S.;
   41         revising the list of schools at which certain faculty
   42         members are eligible to receive a medical faculty
   43         certificate; authorizing a certificateholder to
   44         practice at certain specialty-licensed children’s
   45         hospitals; revising provisions to allow the dean of a
   46         medical school outside the state to make an annual
   47         review or request the provision of medical care or
   48         treatment in connection with education; amending s.
   49         458.3485, F.S.; providing for the certification of
   50         medical assistants; amending s. 483.291, F.S.;
   51         revising qualifications for employment as a medical
   52         assistant; providing an effective date.
