    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution recognizing October 29, 2018, as Turkish
    3         Republic Day in Florida.
    4  
    5         WHEREAS, Republic Day has been proclaimed by the Turkish
    6  Republic’s founder, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, as Turkey’s most
    7  important holiday, and
    8         WHEREAS, an official national holiday in Turkey, Republic
    9  Day celebrates the creation of the Turkish Republic in 1923 and
   10  the adoption of a new constitution, which replaced the
   11  Constitution of the Ottoman Empire, on October 29 of that year,
   12  and
   13         WHEREAS, on that same day, the leader in the Turkish War of
   14  Independence, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, became the country’s first
   15  president, and
   16         WHEREAS, today, the people of Turkey celebrate Republic Day
   17  with patriotic performances, parades, and the laying of wreaths
   18  at monuments to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, NOW, THEREFORE,

   20  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

   22         That October 29, 2018, is recognized as Turkish Republic
   23  Day in Florida.
