2 An act relating to building standards for state
3 subsidized developments; amending s. 553.79, F.S.;
4 providing that the Florida Building Code must require
5 state-subsidized developments to have an operational
6 emergency power source; defining the term “emergency
7 power source”; providing an effective date.

9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11 Section 1. Subsection (21) is added to section 553.79,
12 Florida Statutes, to read:
13 553.79 Permits; applications; issuance; inspections.—
14 (21) The Florida Building Code must require all state
15 subsidized developments to have an operational emergency power
16 source. For purposes of this subsection, the term “emergency
17 power source” means a system that provides an independent source
18 of electric power during a loss of power supply and includes a
19 supply of fuel sufficient to sustain the emergency power source
20 for at least 7 days during a power outage. An emergency power
21 system may include a generator, batteries, and other essential
22 accessories needed to power such emergency power system.
23 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2018.
