    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to public lodging safety regulations;
    3         amending s. 509.211, F.S.; requiring safety
    4         inspections of hotel and motel guest rooms every 48
    5         hours; requiring the Division of Hotels and
    6         Restaurants of the Department of Business and
    7         Professional Regulation to adopt rules; providing an
    8         effective date.

   10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   11  
   12         Section 1. Subsection (5) is added to section 509.211,
   13  Florida Statutes, to read:
   14         509.211 Safety regulations.—
   15         (5) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, hotels and
   16  motels, as defined in s. 509.242, shall require routine safety
   17  inspections of guest rooms every 48 hours regardless of whether
   18  privacy has been requested or a Do Not Disturb sign is displayed
   19  on a guest room door. The division shall adopt rules to
   20  implement this subsection.
   21         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2018.
