    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution recognizing the City of North Miami Beach
    3         on the occasion of the 91st anniversary of its
    4         founding.
    5  
    6         WHEREAS, the City of North Miami Beach, originally known as
    7  the Town of Fulford, was incorporated as the City of Fulford in
    8  1927, named in honor of United States Coast Guard Captain
    9  William H. Fulford, and
   10         WHEREAS, after city officials annexed beachfront property
   11  in 1931, the municipality changed its name to the City of North
   12  Miami Beach as a way to take advantage of the growing fame
   13  associated with the Miami Beach area, and
   14         WHEREAS, the rapidly developing City of North Miami Beach
   15  was formed and shaped by many important and influential figures,
   16  including Captain Fulford, Lafe Allen, Merle Tebbetts, and Carl
   17  Fisher, and
   18         WHEREAS, the City of North Miami Beach established a
   19  foundation for the community’s future growth and economic
   20  prosperity with the construction of a city hall in 1936, the
   21  purchase of the Sunny Isles Water Company in 1945, the creation
   22  of the public works department in 1958, and the opening and
   23  dedication of the public library in 1966, and
   24         WHEREAS, the City of North Miami Beach is home to many
   25  treasured sites and historic landmarks, including the Fulford
   26  by-the-Sea Monument, the Ancient Spanish Monastery, Greynolds
   27  Park, Snake Creek Canal, the Victory Park Pool, and the Julius
   28  Littman Performing Arts Theater, and
   29         WHEREAS, the City of North Miami Beach’s nearly 44,000
   30  residents refer to their community as a place “where people
   31  care,” a slogan indicative of the warm and welcoming spirit that
   32  makes the city a great place to visit or to live, and
   33         WHEREAS, the City of North Miami Beach is led by Mayor
   34  George Vallejo; Commissioners Anthony F. DeFillipo, Phyllis S.
   35  Smith, Beth E. Spiegel, Frantz Pierre, Barbara Kramer, and
   36  Marlen Martell; City Manager Ana M. Garcia, and Chief of Staff
   37  Nicole Gomez, NOW, THEREFORE,

   39  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

   41         That the City of North Miami Beach is recognized on the
   42  occasion of the 91st anniversary of its founding.
