    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution commending the osteopathic physicians of
    3         this state and recognizing April 4, 2019, as
    4         “Osteopathic Medicine and Health Awareness Day” in
    5         Florida.
    6  
    7         WHEREAS, there are currently more than 114,000 osteopathic
    8  physicians in the United States, and
    9         WHEREAS, osteopathic physicians provide health care
   10  services that account for more than 76 million patient visits
   11  annually nationwide, and
   12         WHEREAS, this state has three accredited osteopathic
   13  hospitals and two osteopathic medical colleges and the third
   14  largest osteopathic physician population in the nation, and
   15         WHEREAS, osteopathic manipulation of the musculoskeletal
   16  system is a viable and proven technique for many diagnoses and
   17  treatments and is an alternative to many drug therapies, and
   18         WHEREAS, osteopathic physicians provide comprehensive
   19  medical care, including preventive medicine, diagnoses, and the
   20  appropriate use of drugs, surgery, manipulation, and hospital
   21  referrals, NOW, THEREFORE,

   23  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   24  
   25         That the Florida Senate commends the osteopathic physicians
   26  of this state for their contributions to the health and welfare
   27  of the residents of this state and recognizes April 4, 2019, as
   28  “Osteopathic Medicine and Health Awareness Day” in Florida.
