    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to X-linked myotubular myopathy;
    3         amending s. 393.063, F.S.; revising the definition of
    4         the term “developmental disability” to include a
    5         disorder or syndrome attributable to X-linked
    6         myotubular myopathy; defining the term “X-linked
    7         myotubular myopathy”; providing an effective date.

    9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   10  
   11         Section 1. Subsection (12) of section 393.063, Florida
   12  Statutes, is amended, and subsection (46) is added to that
   13  section, to read:
   14         393.063 Definitions.—For the purposes of this chapter, the
   15  term:
   16         (12) “Developmental disability” means a disorder or
   17  syndrome that is attributable to intellectual disability,
   18  cerebral palsy, autism, spina bifida, Down syndrome, Phelan
   19  McDermid syndrome, or Prader-Willi syndrome, or X-linked
   20  myotubular myopathy; that manifests before the age of 18; and
   21  that constitutes a substantial handicap that can reasonably be
   22  expected to continue indefinitely.
   23         (46) “X-linked myotubular myopathy” means a diagnosed,
   24  inherited, genetic neuromuscular disorder characterized by mild
   25  to profound muscle weakness, diminished muscle tone or
   26  hypotonia, feeding difficulties, ophthalmoplegia, areflexia,
   27  scoliosis, joint deformities, or potentially severe breathing
   28  difficulties.
   29         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2019.
