1 Senate Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing February 2020 as “A Safe
3 Haven for Newborns Month” in Florida.

5 WHEREAS, tragic cases of infant abandonment remain a
6 reality in this state and across the nation, and
7 WHEREAS, a society in which children are born to parents
8 who lack the capability and resources to nurture them must find
9 ways to protect and provide shelter for such newborn children
10 until a home can be found for them, and
11 WHEREAS, A Safe Haven for Newborns provides a safe and
12 legal solution to the quandary facing the parents of such
13 children, saving the lives of infants otherwise in danger of
14 abandonment and protecting their biological parents from a
15 lifetime of guilt, anguish, and irremediable regret, and
16 WHEREAS, A Safe Haven for Newborns helps to fulfill the
17 dreams of many families in this state who are prepared to raise
18 children and who are waiting and hoping to adopt, and
19 WHEREAS, in addition to the counseling and support that A
20 Safe Haven for Newborns provides to biological parents, many of
21 whom are young and unprepared and in extreme crisis, the
22 organization also works with a variety of professionals to
23 address the underlying conditions that otherwise could have
24 ended in tragedy, and
25 WHEREAS, in creating A Safe Haven for Newborns, the Miami
26 based Gloria M. Silverio Foundation has performed a magnificent
27 service to this state and has provided vital leadership for
28 others who seek to avert the tragedy of infant abandonment, NOW,
29 THEREFORE,

31 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

33 That February 2020 is recognized as “A Safe Haven for
34 Newborns Month” in Florida.
