Senator Brandes moved the following:
1 Senate Amendment

3 Delete lines 43 - 50
4 and insert:
5 evidence, and a written plan for civil engagement to address the
6 identified issue through meaningful discourse. The plan may not
7 include political demonstrations, protests, or intentional
8 violations of law.
9 2. A civic literacy practicum must be nonpartisan, focus on
10 addressing at least one community issue, and promote a student’s
11 ability to consider differing points of view and engage in civil
12 discourse with individuals who hold an opposing opinion.
13 Alternatives to government intervention should be considered
14 when developing plans to address community issues.
15 (b) The hours outside of classroom instruction which a
16 student devotes to the nonpartisan civic literacy practicum to
17 implement his or her plan of civil engagement may be counted
18 toward
