    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to certificates of completion;
    3         amending ss. 1001.44 and 1002.34, F.S.; specifying
    4         that students awarded a certificate of completion are
    5         eligible to enroll in career center and charter
    6         technical career center programs; providing an
    7         effective date.

    9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   10  
   11         Section 1. Paragraph (c) is added to subsection (3) of
   12  section 1001.44, Florida Statutes, to read:
   13         1001.44 Career centers.—
   14         (3) CAREER CENTER PART OF DISTRICT SCHOOL SYSTEM DIRECTED
   15  BY A DIRECTOR.—
   16         (c) A student awarded a certificate of completion under s.
   17  1003.4282 is eligible to enroll in career center programs.
   18         Section 2. Subsection (8) of section 1002.34, Florida
   19  Statutes, is amended to read:
   20         1002.34 Charter technical career centers.—
   21         (8) ELIGIBLE STUDENTS.—A center must be open to all
   22  students as space is available and may not discriminate in
   23  admissions policies or practices on the basis of an individual’s
   24  physical disability or proficiency in English or on any other
   25  basis that would be unlawful if practiced by a public school or
   26  a Florida College System institution. A student awarded a
   27  certificate of completion under s. 1003.4282 is eligible to
   28  enroll in charter technical career center programs. A center may
   29  establish reasonable criteria by which to evaluate prospective
   30  students, which criteria must be outlined in the charter.
   31         Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2021.
