    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution commending the Tampa Bay Lightning for
    3         the team’s victory in the National Hockey League’s
    4         2020 Stanley Cup Final.
    5  
    6         WHEREAS, on September 28, 2020, the Tampa Bay Lightning won
    7  the National Hockey League’s 2020 Stanley Cup Final, which, due
    8  to the COVID-19 pandemic, took place in Edmonton, Alberta,
    9  Canada, and
   10         WHEREAS, the Lightning defeated the Western Conference
   11  Champion Dallas Stars in the Cup Final, clinching the series 4
   12  wins to 2, and
   13         WHEREAS, Tampa Bay defenseman Victor Hedman was awarded the
   14  Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the playoffs
   15  after scoring 10 goals, including 3 game-winners, and finishing
   16  with 22 points in 25 games, and
   17         WHEREAS, the 2020 Stanley Cup is the second NHL
   18  Championship won by the Lightning in the organization’s history
   19  since its inception in 1992, with the first coming in 2004, and
   20         WHEREAS, Tampa Bay won the 2020 Prince of Wales Trophy as
   21  the NHL’s Eastern Conference Champion, for the third time in
   22  franchise history, by defeating the New York Islanders to
   23  advance to the Lightning’s third appearance in the Stanley Cup
   24  Final, and
   25         WHEREAS, the Lightning showed resilience and sacrifice
   26  during the COVID–19 pandemic by competing in the delayed playoff
   27  tournament in secure zones, away from family and sequestered
   28  from outsiders for 2 months, and
   29         WHEREAS, millions of “Bolts” fans in the Tampa Bay Area and
   30  across the world watched from safe, socially distanced viewing
   31  parties as the Lightning players lifted the Stanley Cup on
   32  television, and
   33         WHEREAS, the Lightning organization is also known for its
   34  work off the ice in the community, providing vital financial,
   35  logistical, and programming support that touches millions across
   36  this state, NOW, THEREFORE,

   38  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   39  
   40         That the Tampa Bay Lightning are commended for the team’s
   41  victory in the National Hockey League’s 2020 Stanley Cup Final.
   42         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with
   43  the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the Tampa Bay
   44  Lightning organization as a tangible token of the sentiments of
   45  the Florida Senate.
