    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to student fee exemptions; amending s.
    3         1009.25, F.S.; revising fee waiver eligibility for
    4         students who are or were placed in the custody of a
    5         relative or nonrelative to include students placed
    6         prior to a specified date; providing an effective
    7         date.

    9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   10  
   11         Section 1. Paragraph (d) of subsection (1) of section
   12  1009.25, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
   13         1009.25 Fee exemptions.—
   14         (1) The following students are exempt from the payment of
   15  tuition and fees, including lab fees, at a school district that
   16  provides workforce education programs, Florida College System
   17  institution, or state university:
   18         (d) A student who is, or was placed at the time he or she
   19  reached 18 years of age, in the custody of a relative or
   20  nonrelative, including, but not limited to, a placement made
   21  pursuant to under s. 39.5085 or s. 39.6225, even if such
   22  placement occurred before January 7, 2003; or who was adopted
   23  from the Department of Children and Families after May 5, 1997.
   24  Such exemption includes fees associated with enrollment in
   25  applied academics for adult education instruction. The exemption
   26  remains valid until the student reaches 28 years of age.
   27         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2022.
