    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to the secure storage of firearms;
    3         creating s. 790.0656, F.S.; providing firearm storage
    4         requirements for licensed importers, licensed
    5         manufacturers, and licensed dealers under certain
    6         circumstances; authorizing agents or employees of the
    7         Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to
    8         perform inspections under certain circumstances;
    9         providing noncriminal penalties; providing an
   10         effective date.
   11          
   12  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   13  
   14         Section 1. Section 790.0656, Florida Statutes, is created
   15  to read:
   16         790.0656Secure storage of firearms by licensed importers,
   17  manufacturers, and dealers.—
   18         (1)A licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed
   19  dealer who stores or leaves on business premises under its
   20  control a firearm shall, when the premises are not open for
   21  business, secure each firearm on the premises using one of the
   22  following methods:
   23         (a)Secure the firearm with a hardened steel rod or cable
   24  of at least 1/8 inch in diameter through the trigger guard of
   25  the firearm. The steel rod or cable shall be secured with a
   26  hardened steel lock that has a shackle. The lock and shackle
   27  must be protected or shielded from the use of a bolt cutter, and
   28  the rod or cable must be anchored in a manner that prevents the
   29  removal of the firearm from the premises;
   30         (b)Store the firearm in a locked, fireproof safe or vault
   31  on the licensee’s business premises; or
   32         (c)Store the firearm in a hardened, impact-resistant,
   33  locked cabinet.
   34         (2)A duly authorized agent or employee of the Department
   35  of Agriculture and Consumer Services may inspect in a lawful
   36  manner at all reasonable hours any business premises subject to
   37  the requirements of this section.
   38         (3)A violation of this section is a noncriminal violation,
   39  punishable as provided in s. 775.083.
   40         Section 2. This act shall take effect October 1, 2022.
