    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to the care of students with epilepsy
    3         or seizure disorders; amending s. 1006.0626, F.S.;
    4         requiring school employees and certain individuals to
    5         receive certain training at a specified interval;
    6         providing an effective date.

    8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
    9  
   10         Section 1. Paragraph (b) of subsection (3) of section
   11  1006.0626, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
   12         1006.0626 Care of students with epilepsy or seizure
   13  disorders.—
   14         (3) The school nurse or an appropriate school employee of a
   15  school that receives an ISAP pursuant to subsection (2) shall:
   16         (b) Ensure Verify that each school employee or individual
   17  who works with school-sponsored programs outside of the regular
   18  school day is trained every 2 years whose duties include regular
   19  contact with the student has completed training in the care of
   20  students with epilepsy and seizure disorders. The training must
   21  include how to recognize the symptoms of and provide care for
   22  epilepsy and seizure disorders. To assist schools in meeting
   23  this requirement, the Department of Education shall identify on
   24  its website one or more online training courses that are
   25  provided by a nonprofit national organization that supports the
   26  welfare of individuals with epilepsy and seizure disorders and
   27  are available free of charge to schools.
   28         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2023.
