    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to verification of eligibility for
    3         homestead exemption; creating s. 196.092, F.S.;
    4         requiring the Department of Revenue to create a
    5         specified form; specifying requirements for such form;
    6         providing an effective date.

    8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
    9  
   10         Section 1. Section 196.092, Florida Statutes, is created to
   11  read:
   12         196.092 Verification of eligibility for certain disabled
   13  veterans and surviving spouses.—The Department of Revenue shall
   14  create a form that a county property appraiser may use to
   15  provide tentative verification of a person’s eligibility after
   16  the purchase of a homestead property to receive an exemption or
   17  a discount under s. 196.081, s. 196.082, or s. 196.091 and after
   18  such person submits the forms, documentation, and other proof of
   19  eligibility required by the property appraiser. The form must
   20  indicate that such tentative verification is not binding upon
   21  the county property appraiser and that the person must comply
   22  with the annual application requirements of s. 196.011 and the
   23  requirements of s. 196.081, s. 196.082, or s. 196.091 in order
   24  to receive the exemption or discount authorized under those
   25  provisions.
   26         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2024.
