    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to the Florida Building Code; amending
    3         s. 553.73, F.S.; prohibiting a local government from
    4         adopting a local lookback ordinance for substantial
    5         improvements or repairs to a structure which is more
    6         stringent than the Florida Building Code; providing
    7         that lookback ordinances adopted by local governments
    8         before a specified date are void and unenforceable;
    9         providing an effective date.

   11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   12  
   13         Section 1. Paragraph (m) is added to subsection (4) of
   14  section 553.73, Florida Statutes, to read:
   15         553.73 Florida Building Code.—
   16         (4)
   17         (m) A local government may not adopt a local lookback
   18  ordinance for substantial improvements or repairs to a structure
   19  which is more stringent than the Florida Building Code. A
   20  lookback ordinance adopted by a local government before July 1,
   21  2025, is void and unenforceable.
   22         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2025.
