Data and Storage Administrator

General Summary

Florida Senate Office of Information Technology (Senate IT) supports the Senators, Senate staff, and the public. It consists of a customer support, applications and system administration team. More than 20 applications are managed by Senate IT, including traditional and mobile websites, desktop applications and other ancillary technologies.

Senate IT is searching for a professional who is seeking to join an organization that is leading in technology and constantly evolving to support its stakeholders with the future in mind. This professional will be expected to:

  • Lead in installation, configuration and operation of Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager systems.
  • Lead in architecting, implementing, and supporting multiple HP-based storage technologies such as Brocade SAN switches, EVA and 3PAR SAN attached storage, and tape libraries.
  • Communicate progress, obstacles and accomplishments.
  • Monitor storage performance and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Stay abreast of new and evolving technologies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficiency in SAN device administration, storage discipline and/or SNIA certifications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Windows 2008/2012 system administration or MCSA Windows Server 2012 certification.
  • Experience with storage area network and server technologies.
  • Experience in installation, configuration and operation of data storage systems.
  • Experience in architecting data and storage systems.
  • Familiar with information technology redundancy and failover best practices such as hardware load balancing and Windows clustering.
  • Ability to monitor and manage systems for ensuring proactive server and system management.
  • Ability to analyze system data to assist in server and storage performance management, pro-active problem management and capacity planning.
  • Ability to evaluate software and hardware problems and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to assimilate information, develop plans and recommend processes and procedures for data and storage administration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, business administration, education, communications, graphic arts, mathematics, statistics, geography, or engineering and three years of progressively responsible information systems experience.
  • Progressively responsible IT work experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
  • Total experience must equate to a minimum of seven years of information technology experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to author and troubleshoot PowerShell scripts.
  • Familiarity with MS System Center products.
  • Ability to install and maintain software and system.
  • Experience with vendor management.
  • Able to root out an issue and provide options to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, design skills, and ability to multitask
  • Ability to work under deadlines.
