10/28/2014 Inspired. Gratified. Humbled. That's how Representative Matt Gaetz and Senate President Don Gaetz were affected by the Homes for Heroes ceremony Saturday morning in Destin. Master Sgt Joe Deslauriers, his wife Lisa and their son Cameron were welcomed to their beautiful new fully furnished home by hundreds of cheering neighbors and fellow military personnel. Built at zero cost to Joe and Lisa by premiere builder Randy Wise, one of NWF's most generous business leaders, the handsome home was turned over mortgage-free by Homes for Heroes. As bagpipers skirled, classic Air Force fighters wagged their wings in tribute overhead and an honor guard snapped to attention this wounded warrior and his family came home to a grateful community. Representative Gaetz and President Gaetz were proud to present a $1 million legislative appropriation to Homes for Heroes during today's ceremony. Joe told President Gaetz as he gripped his powerful hand, 'I'm so glad I'm coming home here, to Florida.' We're glad, too, Joe. More than that, all of us in this community are grateful to the depth of our souls for the men and women who risk their lives and suffer their wounds for our freedom. As the crowd pushed forward to thank him, Joe pulled himself up in his wheelchair and said to President Gaetz, 'We would do it again. All of it.' Senator Gaetz
