Senator Stargel Earns Prestigious Eagle Award

Lakeland, FL - Senator Kelli Stargel (R-Lakeland) was recently announced as the 2013 winner of the United States Digital Learning Association Eagle Award. The Eagle Award is presented to a nationally recognized public official that has demonstrated unique leadership in public policy and has a long-standing record of educational technology support. Senator Stargel has sponsored and helped pass multiple pieces of legislation to assist the digital learning community in Florida. Her proposals have provided access to more students and allowed the creation of numerous new learning avenues, such as school districts providing digital learning and virtual charter schools.

Senator Stargel was nominated by USDLA Board Member and CEO of Florida Virtual School, Julie Young. In her nomination, Ms. Young stated that Senator Stargel is an extraordinary leader and advocate for education in Florida, committed to improving Florida’s schools and to providing more choices for parents.

As a parent of five children who have been homeschooled, attended public school, private school and taken online courses, Senator Stargel knows the value of parental education options and the benefits of digital learning. "I believe that all parents should have choices on how to best educate their children," said Senator Stargel. "Digital learning is the best option for many families and well fits our ever changing technology driven society."

The USDLA will present the Eagle Award to Senator Stargel during their National Conference in late April in St. Louis, Missouri.
