Florida Senate Unanimously Approves Bill Banning Electronic Cigarette Sales to Minors

Tallahassee —

Today, the Florida Senate passed Senate Bill 224, which aims to prohibit the sale of electronic cigarettes and other alternative tobacco products to minors. The bill is sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Lizbeth Benacquisto (R-Ft. Myers) who released the following statement:

“Today the Florida Senate joined together in unanimous support of protecting Florida’s children,” said Leader Benacquisto. “Electronic cigarettes are becoming increasingly popular. However, by putting age restrictions on these harmful nicotine devices we are taking the steps necessary to keep our impressionable children healthy and strong. I appreciate the support of the Senate and look forward to working with the Governor and our partners in the House to ensure this important bill becomes law.”

CS/CS/SB 224 seeks to include electronic cigarettes under the current statute that prohibits minors from purchasing cigarettes and other tobacco products across the state. It does not change any other tobacco or nicotine-related statutes.
