Statement By Senate President Joe Negron Regarding CFO Jeff Atwater
Florida Senate President Joe Negron (R-Stuart) today released the following statement regarding the announcement that Florida’s Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater will step down following the 2017 Legislative Session.
“Jeff Atwater has been one of the leading fixtures in Florida government for the last 15 years. His tireless work ethic and consummate optimism are immediately evident to everyone he meets.
“CFO Atwater and I were both elected to the House of Representatives as part of the Class of 2000. I later had the opportunity to serve with him in the Florida Senate during his final year as Senate President. Being from the same part of the state, with districts that bordered one another, I enjoyed the chance to work with Jeff on a number of issues to benefit our local communities.
“When I was elected to the Senate in 2009, we were in the middle of the recession and working to balance a budget, while dealing with a multi-billion dollar shortfall. I will always remember CFO Atwater’s strong and determined leadership during this extremely trying time. I know he will serve FAU with the same tenacity.
“I look forward to working with him during this upcoming session, and wish him well as he begins his next chapter.”
