Gaming is an established business sector in Florida; its roots stretch back to the 1890s. Recent rapid changes have transformed gaming industries, but laws and tax policies have not kept pace. The situation demands a comprehensive critical assessment.
The Senate Gaming Committee has assembled a wealth of information, including Spectrum’s Gambling Impact Study (PDF), insightful and diverse testimony at public workshops across the state, and more than 1,500 online comments. In January, the committee will begin considering market-driven solutions that will promote Florida’s overall economic and social welfare and address ambiguities and inconsistencies in current statutes.
