Project Description: |
This project provides low cost healthcare on a sliding scale fee basis to people in Broward County. Currently, the services are being provided through the North and South Broward Hospital Districts with clinical facilities geographically located throughout the County.
Currently, the state primary care funding for Broward County is $0.59 per capita as compared to the State per capita funding of $1.35. Since the inception of the program in 1984, Broward County has not received an equitable share of funds per capita. At that time, the state funding for Broward County was $1,419,950 which has since decreased to the present funding of $1,006,152. An additional recurring allocation of $1,301,157 would bring total state funding for primary care services in Broward County to $2,307,309. This level of funding would make Broward County per capital allocations equitable to the rest of the state.
Chapter 154.01(c) of the Florida Statute indicates that "Primary Care Services...shall be supported by available federal, state, and local funds and shall include services mandated on a state or federal level." Due to the fact that demand for services has increased, and there are indications that recent federal legislative changes and economic changes will continue to lead to even greater demands for services, the request is being made for additional state funding of $1,301,157. This funding will help alleviate the current financial burden placed on local resources.
