Project Description:
The FSRDF will create a network that provides the necessary support and assistance that allows the empowers rural communities to determine their own future through cohesive collaboration and coordination among but not limited to federal, state, local and tribal governments, private for profit, and not-for-profit organizations, educational agencies, and economic development organizations. State dollars are required in order to match federal dollars available through the US Dept of Agriculture(USDA). These funds have been appropriated since 1993 to the FL State Rural Development Council(the predecessor organization) through various state agencies, most recently the University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. The Farm Security & Rural Investment Act of 2002 requires that these funds be allocated to State Councils which have transitioned to non-profit corporations.

Greater coordination between numerous entities representing issues of concern throughout rural Florida, including but not limited to federal, state and local governments and tribal entities. Creation of cohesive rural policy issues for presentation to state & federal legislators to increase their understanding of the needs of rural Florida.
