Project Description:
The City of Fort Myers is currently undergoing a large scale multi-phased sewer rehabilitation and replacement program, which will address aging and/or substandard wastewater system components. The overall goal of the program is to improve flows, reduce infiltration and prevent backflows/sewage spills. The current project area (Phase IIIC) has had numerous documented sewage backflow problems, and there is an immediate need to correct these problems in order to protect public health and reduce negative impacts to the ground and surface waters of Florida. The full cost of Phase IIIC is expected to be at least $22,000,000. The project is primarily located within a very low income neighborhood. COnstruction of the first sub-phase is expected to begin in 2003.
