Project Description:
Funds will be used to complete the Big Slough Watershed Master Plan Study which will provide the City with information to develop a program of best management practices for effective long-term management of the watershed. In addition, the Study will allow the City to more easily address long-term issues such as flooding and impacts on water quality and quantity through improved tracking of maintenance activities. Much of the City of Nort Port lies within the Big Slough (Myakkahatchee Creek) Watershed. This study will be completed jointly with the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD). The estimated cost of the study is $1.283 million and the study will take approximately 3 years to complete.

The City of North Port/SWFWMD will develop the tools and long-term plan to help alleviate long-standing flooding problems and improve the quality and quantity components of the City's (and other area water users) use of this watershed as a potable water source.
