Statewide Interest:
Infrastructure enhancements and reconstruction will foster hurricane evacuation preparedness for one of the state's hurricane prevalent areas. Sumter Boulevard is currently a designated Hurricane Evacuation route, however, the current infrastructure makes it a hazardous route, especially in times of emergency. Furthermore, improvements will increase mobility, while stimulating economic development through job creation and redevelopment.

Project Description:
Infrastructure reconstruction to enhance mobility, safety and accessibility for tourists and residents, as well as upgrading emergency preparedness for one of the state's hurricane evacuation routes. Construction project consists of widening approximately 3.7 miles of Sumter Boulevard from 2 to 4 lanes between U.S. 41 and Interstate 75.
