Port Everglade is proposing an agressive strategy to address the vulnerabilities identified in the FDLE and US Coast Guard security assessments. Port Everglade ranks 2nd in the world in cruise passenger activity handling approximately 4.1 million passengers annually. An effective Closed Circuit Video surveillance system is required to protect cruise terminal, and will enhance the Port's ability to respond to active or passive threats. Currently, the ability to detect and appropriately respond to any threat is minimal.

Project Description:
Install Close Circuit television system in and around all cruise ship terminals within Port Everglades. No local match funding match for the project has yet been identified, since it was not included in the needs assessement of FDLE approved security plan. A local funding source may be identified in FY06.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
The system, when activated will secure 10 cruise terminals that support some 50 different cruise ships that take more than 2580 trips per year and accomodated 4.1 million passangers. Impacts from an unknown incident would be impossible to predict, but implementation will ensure interdiction or rapid response to threats.
