Community Budget Issue Requests - Tracking Id #1233
Belleview Wastewater Utilities Improvements

Requester: Sandi McKamey Organization: City of Belleview

Project Title: Belleview Wastewater Utilities Improvements Date Submitted 1/13/2005 3:58:20 PM

Sponsors: Argenziano, Baker, Lynn

Statewide Interest:
Inadequate capacity coupled with inflow/infiltration issues represents a potential threat to the environment. The implementation of this project will help protect the environment by ensuring that raw sewage is properly collected and treated. Odor control and equipment noise issues exist at the current treatment facility. The proposed improvements will be designed to minimize noise and odor. Improvements necessary are anticipated to provide at least Class B level sludge product, which is also an improvement over the current situation.

Project Description:
This project includes the planning, administration, engineering, and construction of improvements to the wastewater collection, treatment, and reuse system within the City of Belleview. The City's treatment capacity is not sufficient. The planning associated with this request will allow the City to properly identify a solution for capacity and level of treatment that is environmentally sound, technically feasible, cost effective, and able to be implemented and permitted. This project will ensure that the City of Belleview can provide adequate wastewater collection and treatment facilities for the community.

Is this a project related to 2004 hurricane damage? No

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
A groundwater analysis identified exceedances of Maximm Contaminant Levels (MCL) for turbidity present in all of the monitoring wells. The improvements included in this project will include reliability and other features to minimize or eliminate the potential for future MCL exceedance issues. This project will minimize or eliminate the potential for backup of sewage into homes. An adequately sized sewer collection, treatment, and reuse system will ensure that wastewater is properly collected, treated, and disposed, which provides public health protection.
